It’s high time I say something about this. Earlier today, I posted a Facebook status that read, “OH FOR GOD’S SAKE…If I have to hear one more word about the “Ground Zero Mosque,” I am going to punch someone in the teeth. The mosque is not being built on top of the site!!! It’s TWO BLOCKS AWAY! And what will be next? Plowing down every mosque in America?! I hate IGNORANCE. America was founded on RELIGIOUS FREEDOM!!! That is all.

The ignorance that ensued was…pretty much ignorant.

ME: Kim…furthermore, the founding fathers were mostly Masons. With the basic tenet of Masons being that they worship a God of Abraham, that includes three faiths. Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Nowhere in the Constitution is Jesus Christ s…pecifically mentioned. America was formed on the basis of religious freedom, which is why there is a separation of church and state.
Anyway…that has nothing to do with the fact that the “Ground Zero Mosque” isn’t even on Ground Zero. It’s two blocks north, and it would be illegal to prevent the mosque from being built. You can’t just take a snippet out of the Koran and judge the entire thing based on one verse. Do you judge every Christian by the extremists that bombed that abortion clinic? Just a few minutes later, I saw this, posted on a friend’s Facebook. “I DO NOT SUPPORT A MOSQUE BEING BUILT 600 FEET FROM THE WORLD TRADE CENTER!!!!!” It was one of those “viral like” things that everyone just clicks because their friends did it. So, I went to C’s page and said:
C…I saw that you liked “I do not support a mosque being built 600 feet from the WTC.” Would you support a Christian church being built there? Or how about a Buddhist temple? There are extremists in every religion, and you can’t blame every Muslim for the act of extremists. I don’t see anyone villifying Christians because extremists bombed an abortion clinic. And the site is private property. So you don’t support freedom of religion? That’s what America was built on. I respect your opinion, but I don’t agree with it. I am not Muslim, but I am American. And as such, I support freedom of religion, and the freedom to build a place of worship on a private piece of property.

I am JUST SAYING…not all Muslims fly planes into buildings. Just like not all Christians blow up abortion clinics. America was built on RELIGIOUS FREEDOM PEOPLE!!! If we take that away, then we are NOTHING.

You Might Be A Nursing Student If…

You might be a nursing student if…

1. You are not allowed to talk about your day at school at the dinner table.
2. You have what you think is a nightmare, and realize you are just at clinicals.
3. You have replaced sleep with coffee and Red Bull.
4. The librarian at school thinks you’re a stalker.
5. You have no problem discussing sputum and bowel movements at lunch.
6. You find yourself wiping other people’s butts more than your own.
7. Your parents reported you missing over a year ago.
8. Your books require wheels.
9. You get excited when someone says there is dressing change or a catheter to be done.
10. You realize that you fall asleep with your nursing text books more than your significant other.
11. Your Christmas list consists of: NCLEX books, Drug flash cards and nursing care plan books.
12. The thought What the heck are you talking about? runs through your head at least once a day.
13. Your friends start wondering if you died.
14. You know who Don Gloves and Ted Hose are.
15. You get to wear your favorite color: white.
16. The word “care plan” makes you sick to your stomach.
17. You find yourself subconsciously giving your family and friends nursing diagnoses.
18. Your wall is covered in posters of drug calculation formulas.
19. You get at least one phone call a week from a friend asking what that itchy rash on their butt is.
20. You often wonder what happened to your social life.

Tips For Surviving Nursing School (In ONE Piece!)

1. Don’t become too emotionally dependent on your classmates as friends. They will inevitably throw you under the bus if it benefits them. It’s not that they are bad people. It’s just that they are trying to survive too.
2. Don’t boast or discuss your good grades on examsyou will make enemies, and make your classmates much more inclined to throw you under the bus. (See #1) And if, later, you get a really bad grade, and someone keeps bragging about how well they did…you might understand the urge to throw them under a moving vehicle.
3. Always ask WHY! Why, why, why?! Curiosity is one of the best things that nurses can be. One day, you might have a patient that could benefit from your insatiable curiosity.
4. Don’t get sucked into melodramas created by drama-queen classmates. Nursing instructors DO notice.
5. Study, study, study. I think this one is pretty much self-explanatory.
6. Show up for all clinicals. If you don’t show up, you don’t learn. And many nursing schools have a zero tolerance policy. Meaning you can miss ONE clinical due to emergency, but it has to be made up, and you cannot miss another one.
7. Seek help early if you are struggling. It’s always easier to fix a car that simply has low air in the tire than it is to fix the tire after all of the air has run out, and you have been driving on the rim for a month.
8. Don’t be surprised if there is one teacher from Hades. I could go more in depth on this one, but it’s pretty much another self-explanatory one. There is usually at least ONE teacher that could give the Devil a run for his money.
9. Learn to have self-confidence without being a cocky jerk. You need to be confident in what you are doing, but don’t be cocky. Because you could be wrong.
10. Sleep. Get as much of it as you can. You will function faster and better if you do. BUT…don’t sacrifice study time for extra sleep.

I need a vacation in the nut hut…

This morning, I was in the kitchen making breakfast, when from the living room, I hear *RIIIIIIP…RIIIIIIIIP…RIIIIIIIIP* I run into the living room to find CJ sitting on the floor, ripping the pages out of my Psychiatric Nursing book. I could have had a heart attack. As I was taping the pages back together and hyperventilating, I was reading about “stress management.” She didn’t even rip the pages from the front of the book that are useless. No…she ripped out pretty much the entire first chapter of my book. Oh dear Lord…I need a three day vacation in the nut hut. Haha.

I have not done really ANY studying so far this weekend. God help me, I have just had ZERO motivation. My house is a disaster area, and I am just exhausted. This does not bode well for the rest of the semester, LOL! As promised, though, I am including a picture of the wall decoration that I put up in my house. Haha…

Test On Monday. PARTY ON MY PAGES!

I have to study this weekend for the first official actual nursing style test on Monday. Unit 1 Test, here I come! Woot. And I have GOT to clean my damn house. My house is a disaster area. I kind of slacked off all evening earlier and talked on the phone mostly. I talked to JC for a good portion of the day, and the HA called. So I had a conference call going on. As always, it was interesting. JC is so quiet and shy around other people. And then, he fell asleep on the phone, and woke up to text me that he had fallen asleep on the phone. Haha. I cannot wait to see him next weekend. I am getting so excited! But shh…don’t tell him. LOL.

I have been struggling with a question…is it possible to miss someone that you have never met? JC and I were talking about this the other day, even though we went to high school together. We were more of vague acquaintances than actual friends in high school. We knew a lot of the same people, but as far as really kickin’ it in high school? No. I am totally into him though. πŸ™‚

At any rate, things are going well. I have to post a picture of my new wall decorations, and I will do that at a later time, because at this very moment, it is 4:24AM. I stayed up all night talking to JC and HA. And CJ is going to be up in a little while. So I need to grab some shuteye while I still can, LOL.

Anyway…about the party on my pages thing: today, our nursing instructors were joking around with us, and asked us how many people were planning on partying this weekend. Being the terminal smart-ass, I raised my hand. The instructor sort of looked at me, and before she could say anything else, I said, “I’m partying on my pages with Ethics and Morals. Should be a great time. Everyone is welcome to join. It’s BYOB, though.” I don’t know why (probably because it was the end of the day on a Friday) but everyone thought it was hysterical. I was just being a smart ass. Haha.

First Two Days of Nursing School

Holy freaking crap! The very first day was crazy. I felt like someone had uncapped a fire hydrant while I was standing in front of it. So much information in so little time. I also pulled my first all-nighter on the first day of the semester. We had 95 pages of math homework to do. Ninety…five…pages. Do you have any idea how much I hate fractions? No? I would rather stab myself in the thigh with a fork. Algebra is okay. I can get down on some Algebra. But fractions? I can do them, but I HATE them. Anyway.

Today was the second day of the semester. And we had a FOUR HOUR TEST. The TEAS and the Critical Thinking Assessment. The TEAS is kind of a general knowledge test to see where you stand from the beginning. The Critical Thinking Assessment was just to see how our brains worked. I blew them out of the water. So I am pretty happy with that. I think that I could have done a little bit better on the TEAS, but when I am in the 90th percentile on both the national and group level, I guess that’s cool too. On the Critical Thinking Assessment, I was in the 99th percentile on the national and group level. That was more my style. I like to be the top dawg. Haha!

CJ went poo-poo in the potty today! I was SO EXCITED! Haha. In other news, JC and I have been talking a lot lately. He is planning on coming out here to my city and bringing the camera. We’re thinking beach pictures with CJ, balloons, and the dog, LOL. He’s like a Jack of All Trades. I talked him into taking a day off today. I told him to tell his boss that he had anal glaucoma. When he asked me what that meant, I told him it meant that he just couldn’t see his ass coming into work. He thought that was the funniest thing. I told him that he needed to get out more. πŸ™‚

Now, I need to go do more homework. πŸ˜›

Nursing School and Potty Chairs!

Nursing school starts tomorrow. I am so excited, and at the same time, VERY apprehensive. What if the instructors don’t like me? What if I screw up? What about my daughter and childcare for her? How am I going to manage to do EVERYTHING all at one time? What if I can’t sleep tonight because I am so nervous? I should have spent the day getting one really good deep cleaning done on my house before nursing school starts, but CJ pee-pee’d in the potty chair all by herself today for the very first time. So we went to Chuck E Cheese’s to celebrate.

I got her the potty chair yesterday at Wally World, and brought it home, put it together (with a LOT of looking at the diagram, LOL!) and set it in the MIDDLE of the living room. I put CJ on it, and made a really big deal out of it. Yayyy! Every single time she would go sit on it, I would make a big deal out of it. Then, this morning, before she had even had it for a full day, she was running around naked (I know, it could have been bad!) and she was sitting on the couch. She looked over at me, slid off the couch, and just as pretty as you please, went over and sat on the potty chair. I made a big deal out of it again. THEN, I heard psssssssssss. My reaction was epic. I jumped off the couch, started dancing around the living room, telling her I was SO PROUD of her, and kissing her every couple of seconds. I called EVERYONE in my contacts list. I never thought that a child peeing in a potty could be SO EPIC. Until it happened. LOL!

I couldn’t have asked for a better present for starting nursing school than that!

Aghh!!

Today, I went to the bookstore and bought the rest of my books (except for one which I have to buy on Monday) and the grand total that I spend on books this semester is going to hover around $1100. For one semester. Of books. Trees that have been mashed up, bleached, scribbled on, bound together, and shipped to my bookstore. What the heck…?

On top of that stress, my daughter must think that today is the best day ever to push my buttons. Oh Dear God. Is it really bad to say that I can’t wait until classes start back on Monday? Or to say that I am happy that my schedule is going to be hectic? Okay, it probably is. But God only knows…she gives me chest pain. If it’s not jacking my keys and running straight to the nearest electrical outlet, it’s grabbing the family photos (the irreplaceable ones) and tearing them to pieces, then laughing when I scream in horror.

CJ is not two years old yet (she is right around the corner from 18 months) but she has the Terrible Two’s DOWN to a science. I think I need a tranquilizer gun just to survive.

Buying Books

Tuesday I went to the college and bought books. SEVEN bags and a little over $900 later, I left. Still missing four textbooks that I need. Yesterday I got my package in the mail from my dad in Michigan. In it, my $300 stereo. Which was busted. Luckily he put insurance on the package. UPS is coming back out tomorrow to assess the damage. Which puts a stop to my plan to go back to the college and buy the rest of my books. Bloodsuckers! Haha.

On a better note, I might be having visitors this weekend! Some of my really good friends that live two hours away (a couple of them were here at the beach from an earlier post) might be coming with their brother, whom I went to middle school with. I haven’t seen him since I was pregnant with CJ, as he is stationed quite a few hours away from here. I miss him though! Anyway…he promised that he would come and bring his brothers this weekend. And if he doesn’t, I will have to cause him grievous bodily harm. LOL. Just kidding. Kind of.
